Black Butte, Blackberry

Black Butte is an early season variety, ripening in mid-July and producing attractive, well presented, uniform berries of good flavour and exceptional size (over 11gms/berry).

The variety is thorny and the trailing canes are vigorous and winter hardy. Black Butte has particular appeal for PYO growers and those supplying specialist local outlets.

Ordering Information
How To Grow – Plant in a sunny position with free draining soil. If you have chalky, sandy or heavy clay soil, improve with plenty of bulky organic matter before planting. Allow spacings from 2m to 3.5m per plant and support the stems using framework or train against a trellis or wall. Apply a layer of organic mulch annually ensuring that this is not too close to the new growth to prevent rotting. In autumn, prune the canes which have fruited to ground level whilst the canes which have not fruited should be ‘tied in’ to their supports.
